Calgary, has Mts. somewhat nearby. They are like a 1-2 hr drive. there really isnt many lakes nearby, although some true locals will try and argue that.

Blah, I'm the true local around here. There are some lakes here, just aint that many 
But on a serious note, there is some decent lakes about 2-3 hours from Calgary (McGregor, Buffalo, Lousie, etc)
