Not to bring reality to 24 or anything, but it did occur to me that the president could've tipped off the Chinese. This would assume that he didn't get caught and lives happily ever after. Now, would it really look very good for anyone if a person accused of treason and kidnapping/attempting to murder the president disappeared out of secret service custody? You're damn right it wouldn't, because it would look like he escaped. And, after everything else that happened, I don't think that's a very good result.
Having the Chinese know where to be makes NO sense at all. Either the president tips them off and you get the bizarre and unlikely situation above or they just happen to figure out on their own, which makes about as much sense. They wanted to include it in this season instead of it happening between seasons and to leave a cliffhanger at the end. It was poorly conceived and poorly executed.
