The funny thing about the catholic church is that the pope has the power to "interpret" the will of god as he sees fit. If the pope decides that it is "the will of god" to rewrite the bible in gender neutral terms then, by golly, it is the WILL OF GOD. Whereas other forms of christianity the laypeople often bear the responsibility of "interpreting" the will of god.
All of the translations of the bible that we use today were subject to selective editing. Why is this any different?
