Human desires like love, hunger, sex can be satiated, at least temporarily. Immortality is a pervasive desire, but has yet to be fulfilled by any human beings. Logically speaking, people ought to resign themselves to the fact that their desire for immortality is impossible to attain, and yet it doesn't stop them from trying--having babies, becoming famous, building big works, doing something newsworthy. I think it's a little sad and pathetic that people hold onto a desire that their names be remembered after their death, for even that memory of their name is bound to fade in short time.
