CNN Money Cost of living comparison calculator:
Salary in New York (Queens) NY: $37,000
Comparable salary in Fort Worth TX: $24,098.48

So, even with the "reduced" salary, you are getting an increase in money value. And the family situation sounds good. You call Texas better, so I assume you are ready for the cultural and climatological differences. Sounds like a 'go' to me.
