Depends? What am I killing?
Squirrels or small game: My 1950-s vintage Savage .22/.410 drilling. Cheap, versatile, and dead accurate.
Large game: FN-FAL in .308, throwing 168-grain Game Kings.
Upland birds: .410 SxS hammer-double. Light, super-fast, and easy to handle in the thick stuff.
Heavy birds: Mossberg 500 12-bore, after I fit the longer barrel.
Bad Guys, CQB: Same Mossberg, with short barrel and sidesaddle.
Bad Guys, General: FN-FAL in .308, with 3-9x variable optic. FMJ ball for standard and 168-grain Match Kings for long-range work.
Bad Guys, Extreme Close Range: Para-Ordinance double-stack 1911.
Mad Guys, Extreme Long Range: Someone else, who has the money to afford this kind of thing!
