What style of MUD are you after? If you want a serious MUD, with intricate (and working!) code head over to
Shadows of Isildur and check out the codebase they have there. Uses 3 MySQL databases for all sorts of neat stuff and is heads and shoulders above all other SMAUG derivatives.
