The first influential book that I read that comes to mind is, "And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street", by Dr. Seuss.
It's the first book I remember reading on my own, and I firmly believe it's what got my imagination jumpstarted.
Imagining the whole Seussian world started me thinking and questioning events and people around me, and opened my eyes up so I wasn't so self-focused.
