Imediate thoughts:
Adam Jones is the man. He has gotten really good since Aenima, and also did the art direction, and thus was responsible for the 3d packaging.
APC had an effect on Maynard. Vicarious, a bit, and Right in Two, have very APC like themes.
The timing is all over the place, but you can still groove to it (unlike some of lateralus).
The first time I listened to it was pretty good, but it just keeps getting better every time. I found on Lateralus that some song were just really hard to listen to. If you concentrated, and really listened, you could get into them, and there was so much to get into, but otherwise they weren't good to listen to. The songs on 10,000 days are a lot easier on the ears, but still have a lot of depth. I'm sure I'm going to be listening to it for a long time, and will still keep finding things.
Also, I can't help but think that those who found it underwhelming, need to listen to it again. Many many times, with good headphones, in a dark room.
