Amazing and exciting stuff from the Tool camp. Definetly a big change from lateralus, but thats what you'd expect from a band that takes 5-6 years to crank out a new album. Notice how Lateralis sounded nothing like AEnima which sounded nothing like Undertow which sounded alittle like Opiate(but EPs don't count in the equation). The only problem i have with it like i did with Lateralis is that there is too much filler. I know you're all saying, but tool always does that. But it seems to keep increasing, it seems that theres only about 40 mins worth of non-filler tracks.
I may be spoiled but they havnt balanced that aspect well since Aenima, (and i think Undertow was a straight up rock album, nothing artsy about it). and at least there the filler was amusing with recipes for deviled eggs in german and a guy telling you what a dissapointment you are (the baby crying annoys me though).
Nonetheless this is a very special album. very introspective. very different. I like the way they kept the overpowering drums and added stronger guitar parts, the talkbox in Jambi is the poop! Look forward to seeing them live in August.
I also wanted to know if anyone had heard of Puscifier, i recently learned that Maynard's been doing side stuff with Danny Lohner, and had stuff on the Underworld (1 and 2) soundtracks. I think maynard has one of the best voices in rock ever. And since APC is done i'm anticipating filling the void in the next five years between tool albums.
ROCK ON TOOL.
