Hey all,
I've been getting some weird errors the last few days. They really seem to have started at the same time there was a game patch for EQ2, but I am really starting to doubt myself.
Currently, I'm still running Win 2k. I'm working towards getting a new copy of XP. That's just a bit of a huge purchase of me currently.
At first the errors were just "Program" has generated errors and has to be shut down. An error log is being created. For the first week, EQ2 was the only program that did it. Two days ago, Toontown did it when the kid decided she finally wanted to play it. No other games do this error.
I decided that it had to be a virus or some kind of either spyware of ad ware. I made sure everything was updated. AVG, Spybot, and Ad-aware. Each one found nothing. The error was mostly random. Sometimes could play for a good two hours then couldn't even get it to get past certain parts.
I finally did a complete reinstall of Win 2k yesterday. I did all the MS updates, program updates, latest drivers for every device. I attempted to install EQ2 and got a very disturbing error. Basically it was saying that the files weren't matching what was from the vendor and to get it checked. The cd's stay in storage in their repsective cases and in a cabinet away from small hands. There are no stratches on them. I have been able to use them to install DX 9. I made sure I had the latest video driver.
The hard drive, motherboard, and memory is new. Bought in Feburary. I know probably that it could be a failure somewhere. I really hope not. I turned this problem over to the BF this morning and he did a complete chkdsk on the hard drive. I was working on finishing up a science project so I'm not exactly sure what else he did.
My question is.... could it be my dvd burner failing? Or hard drive when it has no errors that can be found? This is just starting to really break my nerves in figuring it out and I feel a fresh look from the outside just might help.
Thanks in advance!
