Yes, I've noticed the parallels with President Logan and President Bush as well, but it's not the first time the show has dealt with themes that mirrored what was going on in real life. The nuclear bomb going off in the desert happened while the "threat" of Iraqi WMDs was on everyone's mind leading up to the war. (wow, I just looked it up: that episode aired 3/4/2003, the war started on 3/20/2003. Makes you wonder if Rumsfeld is a fan...
)
But that's not really what I'm talking about, in terms of how the show's different now. I guess what I'm asking is: was the show always this overt and melodramatic? I just felt the earlier seasons were more subtle (and, for me, more interesting) with their characterizations and plot lines. Now everthing feels over-the-top and in-your-face and unnecesarily fast-paced to make up for the show's shortcomings.
I have no issue with the show not being all gung-ho USA (although I never thought of it like that). I think the idea of the President being the bad guy is good, but I'll still question the quality of the way in which they've executed that idea.
Not really looking for a pissing contest here or anything... just trying to figure out what's happened to one of my favorite shows.
