i think the most annoying aspect of Tool has nothing to do with the band itself - it is the fans that overanalyze Maynard's lyrics. granted, they're interesting - thought provoking even - but the pedestal that his words are held upon is absurd. abstraction is not genius.
as far as 10,000 days.... i'm a bit dissapointed. meandering passages, riffs ripped right from Lateralus, little vocal variation. there's obviously some tool greatness, but the album can't compare to Tool's best - Aenima.
