That sounds like a DirectDraw problem or memory issue, or BIOS setting, or even overheating. You said the video problems were similar before your 5200, right?
Go to Start->Run...
Enter dxdiag and hit enter.
A DirectX diagnostic window will open. Switch to the Display tab. Disable all acceleration. Exit the tool and see if the problems change.
BTW, which Asus motherboard do you have?
