No idea if you have done it or what but you may want to open the computer up and take a can of compressed air and clean out the dust thats been building up for the last 5 years. Dust built up on the fans and heat sinks can cause it to heat up alot more then it should and heat=evil. Might not help your problem at all but its basic computer maitnance that everyone should do and it cant hurt and it might even help.
