Your machine is fine spec wise. I have the same, and run Oracle 10, SQL Server etc etc. Everything but the latest games.
But...your software sounds very sick.
Are you computer literate or willing to learn? If not, the suggestion of re-installing, by whichever method, seems a good one.
Otherwise....
It's not really necessary, but it makes a cleanup easier if you remove programs that you don't use. Extra programs don't really slow the computer, but they sure increase your job. And of course.. the less software your have - the faster a scan (virus etc) is.
Next. Get a current antivirus program.
Next. Get two or more anti-spyware programs. I use Spybot Search and Destroy (free), although it seems to have a very bad detection algorithm speed-wise. It runs slow if you have a lot under "my documents". I've heard that Spyware Doctor (?) is good. AdWare might be ok, it used to be the leader....
Now, get something that allows you to see which processes run on startup.
Now... boot to safe mode. Log-in as admin and check for rogue startup processes. Do the same with all other accounts.
Now run spyware searches.. For each accounts.
Now run anti-virus.
Now (optionally) boot to normal mode and defrag.
