I think the artists should be compensated so I joined Rhapsody. But paying a buck a song got old REAL fast- especially when you pay in advance to rip a bunch of songs and there's a problem. Then you have to go through tech support for a credit.
Now I use Limewire. But I would use a pay service if the price was reasonable-say 10-20 cents a song
I think a lot more people would pay that to avoid the spyware and all the crap you get with Kazaa, and I think the music industry would make a helluva lot more money than pressing us for a buck a song now.
