waaaal it kinda depends on the mirror. Most modern mirrors bolt on - you bolt 'em on from inside the car. You usually don't have to disassemble the whole door - usually it's just removing a plastic cover over the inside mirror mount.
Not sure I've ever seen one mount with doublesided tape. I can't really think of a good way to do that without winding up with a wiggly mirror.
what kind of car are we talking about here?
