I've just reread HBP, and I have a few tidbits to add.
Someone mentioned earlier that you really have to mean it when you use the AK spell. I don't think Snape would really have had to fully mean it for it to be effective, ad DD is already very weak from drinking all the potion to get the locket. Also, it's so not DD to suddenly start begging for help in front of Draco and the two other Death Eaters that were there with them. DD was really asking, IMO, for Snape to kill him rather than Draco, which in my mind means Snape really *is* loyal to DD and will be playing a part in bringing Voldemort down.
I also agree with him giving Harry "advice" instead of killing him outright when Snape was fleeing the castle, I didn't really pick up on that the first time around.
