Hey Miekle, I don't know which amp you are using but here are a few things you could try. You might want to look into a multi-effects pedal, there are some good ones for under a $100. I use a DigiTech, Zoom are good also.

Cut and paste this link if you want to check out some multi-effects pedals. I have bought allot from musiciansfriend, they have good prices on equipment.

I know it is hard to find the right sound on your amp while you are playing,{we only have two hands for a job that needs three }. Ask a friend to turn the knobs while you are playing, write down the combinations that you like for future reference.

Most amps have three knobs for tone; treble, middle-contour, bass, that go from 1 to 10 like the volume does, and a Gain and volume knob. More gain = more crunch

Clean sound, treble on 6, middle on 4, bass on 4, gain on 5.

Blues sound, treble-9, middle-6, bass-8, gain-8.

Rock, treble-9, middle-5, bass-8, gain-10.

Metal/Thrash,10-10-10-10.

Hope this helps you out!
