That perhaps you enabled MAC filtering for the laptop and that's why it alone is working. I'm still curious if you've successfully connected any other wireless clients to that AP.
Does the desktop connect to other AP's?
I don't have any Linksys wireless cards. Does the "waiting for network" period include when it's acquiring an address? Have you tried static addressing, even if just for the desktop?
