Generally, this is the same exact experience I have. I'll start getting nervous as I get ready for the performance regardless of what I'm doing (theatre, musical, opera, solo art song type stuff), then the last few minutes before I go out are the worst. But as soon as I'm out on stage and going through the motions it all settles down. The only exception really is if I'm horribly unprepared. Then the anxiety tends to stay a bit longer.
