I'll agree with Latch on this. Solaris is quite finicky on the hardware it will run on. I would try Linux as there is quite a bit more that you can do with it on the desktop. Solaris 10 really isn't meant to be a desktop OS, though it can be used as one. That's why Sun makes the Java Desktop OS.
