Did you ever try Zilactin with or without the benzocaine? For someone who gets frequent cold sores, it's a godsend (as I said in my original post). Seriously. The protective film it forms makes everything soooo much better--I can't stress it enough.
I don't understand why anyone would willingly rub salt into a wound--in my case, hydrogen peroxide/Zilactin has always cleared up even my most stubborn sores in less than a couple days with MUCH less pain.
