I guess as far as "true metal" goes, I'm not much of a fan. I've never been able to get into Priest, Maiden or bands of that sort. As far as Opeth, they're ok, but a bit too dreary for my tastes. Don't get me wrong, I dig them at times, but they're certainly not a band I could listen to all day every day.
I listen to mostly grindcore and death metal, though I like stoner, drone, quite a bit of doom, some thrash, and, on occasion, some metalcore. I'm all about "cookie monster"
vocals. During the last year, however, I've found myself listening to alot of early "metal" or "hard rock", whichever you'd like to call it. Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Cream, etc...
I've never understood the whole metal snobbery thing. If you like it, then good for you, whether I like it or not. I've come to find out that there are few who think that way anymore (were there ever many to begin with?).
