Thats what munchie food is for.
Lately i've been buying a lot of starburst and the watermelon bazooka gum that has the flavor crystals that are black and look like little watermelon seeds.
Also how you smoke it makes a bit of a difference and the cleanliness of the water/device used. If the water isn't fresh it may not be pleasant to a newbie.
