Just as a side note, people really don't trash this type of enviroment that much.
The problem is what people bring, mainly rats and cats, but also plants as well. Clearing some fields and the like doesn't destroy the native species, but adding competition they have no defense against does.
Personally I love cats, but they should be exterminated in places like Hawaii and other islands.
