My gf picked up Rupert at the pet store about a 2 weeks later, because I was away at work, and she was devastated and the house was so empty without Fletcher. So Rupert was the dominant cat in the house, when we bought Jericho home. She had been trapped in the wild at a grain elevator, abused (she's missing teeth and she's terrified of men) and left to languish in the animal shelter for 6 months before we saw her. She had a uterine infection when we got her and her first trip in the car with us was to the vet for emergency surgery, even before she had met Rupert. When we got her home finally, she cried for the first 3 days, while hiding under the bed, and then she discovered the basement, and she hid for the next two weeks under the bicycles, and all the while Rupert pestered her constantly. Just when we thought the two of them would hate each other forever, something clicked between them, and they've been like this ever since. Jericho is still very skittish, she'll hide from strangers, but the only time she cries now, is when she can't find Rupert.
