I'm not saying you should embrace the darker emotions unconditionally, but they can serve a purpose. It's what you choose to do with them that matters. Exactly why I was saying that negative emotions need to be savored. You may be using other more common meanings, but the less common definition should suffice:
savor: To appreciate fully
