found it... its season one episode 4 about 30 minutes into the episode without commercials
locke is hunting boar and he's chasing one and then all of a sudden there are monster sounds and the trees start shaking. Then it goes from the monsters point of view as the monster pushes through the trees and goes down towards him. Locke has a look of awe on his face, and then it cuts to something else
I think thats locke getting tested by the black smoke.
