To answer the OP: It's too late for them to learn. It's game over for GM and Ford. I predict a bankruptcy from GM first, probably in the next year or two. Ford will hold out a little longer, but they won't be able to compete with GM after GM reorganizes, and then they will do a bankruptcy too.
