OK, I've now taken the time to RTFA. (I just posted and ran last time.)
To break it down: DMcN used to scramble. According to Mondesire, DMcN then said "everybody expects black quarterbacks to scramble", and therefore he choses not to scramble, because he wants to "keep it real" and prove himself. This statement apparently predates his injuries. Mondesire says that DMcN is claiming a racial card, but is just covering for his mediocracy.
I hate it when things get taken out of context.
