I took her window shopping on fifth avenue in new york city (we took a limo into the city - which was really no more expensive than a cab to go pick her up - two train tickets into the city, and cabs) Then after window shopping we had high tea at the plaza -- it was actually a lot of fun spending the day with her - and she honestly would have been perfectly content just baking cookies. (that was her birthday present)

Kids don't always need stuff -- they actually do appreciate time -- especially when adults are busy.
