Fred Phelps is weird. It's not just that he's a nut, there's something else going on there. He was a big supporter of Gore in 1988. He protests basically any newspaper because he thinks all the media caters to gay people.
And yet, when I worked at an NPR radio station in Kansas, I picked up the phone one day, and it was his wife offering us a donation. They apparently were long time donors. We not only carried NPR, which is gay friendly, we had a gay employee.
