I don't get hickies easily, therefore getting sucked to the point I would get one would hurt considerably and would probably be more into the S&M realm of having sex. OK for some, not for me.
Martel, on the other hand, gets them *very* easily. All I have to do is make an "O" with my mouth, place somewhere on his body (easiest is his neck) and suck for about, oh, five-ten seconds, enough pressure to pull up the skin, not so much it hurts. He gets a cute little almond shaped red mark that goes away in about four days.
So yeah, it depends on the brusing capability of your SO.
