When those doses of the medication do not work.....taking even more isn't going to do it. OTC painkillers only go so far. When the pain is severe, you need a mild narcotic (not necessarily oxycontin or vicoden or percocet), but tylenol with codeine could do the trick. The dentist could give you a derivative of cocaine (either lidocaine, procaine, etc.) that numbs the gums/tooth. Its a local anesthetic.
