Finally, a good one...
Walk the Line I went in to this film a little trepidaciously. See, I hate Joquain Phoenix. I find his acting to be awful. He made Gladiator an even worse movie with his awful acting, and Ladder 49 was, well, Ladder 49. BUT, and it's a big but, this film helped change my feelings about Mr. Phoenix. I have to admit, he did a really good, convincing portrayal of the Man In Black. The story was convincing, it sucked me in from the start, and I felt for the characters deeply. Reese Witherspoon finally earns her acting wings in this movie, proving that she's capable of more than Legally Blonde mediocrity.
This movie has direction, it flows smoothly, and it succeeds. My criticisms are as follows. This movie is the clone of last years Oscar winner Ray, with a white guy instead of a black guy. I also felt that the story line of Johnny and his father wasn't given any closure, but that's minor.
This movie is very good, and very close to being great, but I rarely dole out "greats".
8/10
