Love the new series though

ya, I wasn't sure whether or not my wife was going to let this one in the house (I gave it to my 13 yo as a birthday gift) and the beginning where the family arrives in the limo certainly isn't going to sell it to her. There are so many '70's & '80's refer-backs that my kids always are asking me: what does that mean?
example: on the red carpet the Asian correspondent Trica Takenawa ignores (poor) Meg because David Bowie is coming.
Q1: who is David Bowie
Q2: why does he say 'Shhh just you shut your mouth'
I was spliting my sides laughing at that.
Then Asian correspondent Trica Takenawa starts to hump David Bowie's leg, and that is where a) my kids laughed and b) my wife glowered and threatened to return the movie.
*sigh* do girls have a different sense of humour (possible subject of another thread) as they (gross generalization here I know) seem to find slapstick or sophomoric humour to be 'unfunny'. I know very few women who like the three stooges, Monty Python, Adam Sandler etc etc....
