There was something missing, try as I might it didnt come to me. She would normally create an image in my mind, like the smell of woodsmoke in fall...warm and inviting. Tonight I was lost, and it was not pleasant. I watched her enter this place we had created, noting the fluidity of her movement, the way she paused when making a point to remove her shoes with flare, as if by this jesture alone she would capture the essence of the lust this room held. Something was wrong.
The Painting above the bed was dusty, not touched since it was hung, neglected in favor of more important actions, but it still held the memory of the night we bought it....and for some reason this flushed the missing piece of the puzzle into my numbed mind. The skyline colored in this art...plunged into the city, much as the necklace dipping into her breasts, and the ring dangling from its silver chain.....her wedding ring was no longer on her finger.
I watched as the light glinted off the stone in her ring, and thought of the healed scratches on my back from accidental ripping of flesh as we played. She noticed my gaze, and pulled the chain off in an aggressive tug, leaving red burns where the metals pressed into her neck." Here....you take this damn thing", she spit, throwing the serpentine choker in the air as if cursing some Goddess for slapping her with men.
Ducking the flying silver, it whistled past my ear, the same ear she had drawn blood from two days ago as we worked out her hatred of that man. If that night was any indication of what was in store.....I would be in great pain in the morning.

I risked it.
