Well, I've spent the last... oh... say...
Six Hours playing this game...
Here's my opinion.
Very, very, very disappointing. The graphics are not very good - at all. Additionally there are a ridiculous amount of glitches in the game - Neo "talking on the phone" - except, there's no phone in his hand, and unbelieveable amount of clipping though clothing, the shooting system is relative crap, and the hand-to-hand combat is very below par. Granted, it's been awhile, but if I remember correctly "Enter the Matrix" hand to hand was waaaay better.
I am so very disappointed - if it didn't involve The Matrix, I probably would have quit long ago. Granted, some parts are still entertaining, but it is way below even standard games of today.
As far as the story goes, it is very... loosely... based on the movies, which I found very odd. The editing of the movie sequences leaves something to be desired. Many, if not most, of the key scenes have been changed to enable more of a playable aspect of it. Unfortunately, most of them are retarded. For instance, Spoiler: In the park fight, where you fight all the Smiths, you have to punch the surrounding buildings to get them to collapse so that more Smiths don't come. At the end, instead of exiting via flying out of a giant pile of Smiths, they just seem to diasappear once the buildings are knocked down.
Other aspects of the game are just completely ridiculously stupid. I kid you not, at one point you fight Spoiler: ANT PEOPLE. Yeah, giant red ants that you have to beat down with a big candle. Ridiculous.
Anyway, I'm just at the point where I left the Merovingian's Chateau, and so there shouldn't be too too much game left. Fortunately, there hasn't been any portion of the game that has taken place outside the Matrix as of yet, nor any driving - both poorly done when it seems that they put some time into the game.
I'll update you as I progress, I imagine I'll finish it in the next coupld of days...
Overally, I'd give it a 4.5 out of 10 - and 4 of those points are given simply because it is based on The Matrix...
More glitches that occur far to often -
The camera is terrible, half the time you are looking at a wall up close and personal and mashing on buttons.
Often, when you die and restart the level, the sound is completely messed up. No Music, no gunshots, no anything except the sound of punches - except the sound is played with a 1-3 second delay.
Theweapons you can use are extraordinarily limited, which isn't that big of a deal, I suppose, but kinda irks me. Regular pistols, "Heavy pistol" (aka the agents weapon, presumably .50 cal) Submachine guns, Assault Rifle, and Grenade launcher. There isn't even a reload key. For the melee weapons, you can choose between a couple of swords, a couple of short weapons (a hatchet and a small scythe looking thing that I'm sure probably does have a proper name, but I can't be bothered to look it up) and a couple of staffs. The problem lies in the fact that the melee weapons are very, very rare - except in the chateau level.
