Pick up group end game play and guild-raid end game play are two very different things. Rogues generally have problems with PUGs because PUGs are uncoordinated and are basically 5-15 people doing what they would do alone but in a group so that all of them are kind of doing the same thing. That means the rogues pull aggro, which means that healers spam heals and then the rogue dies and then the healer dies. Game, set, match. So if you're going for unguilded end game PvE, then yeah, being a rogue is going to suck.
If you get into a guild that is coordinated and on TS or vent and knows what it is doing, you're going to be a valued DPS class that is all but required for some fights. Anyone ever try to take down Hexxar without a decent number of rogues? It's very difficult. Sure, you have to pay attention to getting high FR gear so AoE stuff in MC won't fry your pretty little face, but that's part of the job description. Endgame in WoW is VERY different than 0-60 for every class. DPS classes need to take their aggro levels very seriously. Mana-users need to learn mana control for 5 to 20 minute fights. Paladins and shamans need to learn that they're healers and not DPS classes. And tanking Onyxia is a far cry from tanking Baron Rivendare or Princess or Von Cleef.
Find a good group of people to play with and adapt to your class's new functionality at 60. They're not any harder or any easier than anyone else and they're far from useless. I wish people would stop making sweeping ridiculous statements that they are.
