I buy the car I can afford and they car I like, which consistently is a Toyota of the early to mid 80s. It's not the prettiest vehicle but she runs and is kept clean. No need for immaculate when one owns a beater.
Judging external criteria is one way to evaluate the interior, however, all must be considered.
