This is a fantastic metaphor.
I wish artists could use the internet as a means of directly promoting their own works in an effective manner. So they pay recording costs and server costs for selling their album/internet collection. I would LOVE to pay 5$ for a music album and also see the artists recieve more money than they would if I bought their 24$ CD released by mr.bigcorporation.
edit: as to the sony rootkit, it's being used to foil the anti-cheat program in WoW. Hides the macromakers etc. with the $sys$ thing.
