I never thought of the crap bowl of candy. That's a fantastic idea.
One of the first houses we went to the man of the house sat on the porch, very still, with a mask on. I thought it was a dummy, but at the last moment he pulled his mask off and startled my son. It was funny though, and the rest of the evening my son asked if "this house has monsters too".
We got "tricked" many times growing up, because my mom thought Halloween was a celebration of Satan and evil, and therefore we didn't give out candy (nor did we go trick or treating, I was a deprived child). It was usually tp'ing or egging.
