I was assigned a 'project' that is waaaay out of my league.
I've been put in charge of updating the catalog of reference books (and subsequently all the other collections in the library), which has become quite a hassle. I'm not familiar with the software, which means I'm learning as I go, which means once a vast chunk of the project is 'done' I learn some neat new trick and have to go back and update what's already been 'finished.' Second, the list of acronyms is huuuge. It's gotten so bad, I've had to make a little cheat sheet off to the side just keep the damn things straight and to be perfectly honest, I still have no idea what half of them really mean. Third, I have no time to work on it, at least, not in sizeable chunks as I have other duties to discharge. So, I don't get to spend a lot of time at my desk in the back, which is the only place where I'm 'allowed' to work on it. So, it's slow going, which isn't really what the boss-lady wants to hear.
The thing that really irks me about the whole thing is that I'm not even supposed to be working on it. This is the a job for the gal who manages the catalogue. A gal who makes considerably more than me and seems to have nothing but free time on her hands.
