Who said anything about mechanics. I do all my own work.

No. I'm saying I'd get a 10 year old supra before I'd get a corvette or ferrari. Where'd you get the 80 grand figure? That's just for the Lingenfelter work. Add in the cost of the original 'Vette too. Lingenfelters aren't known for reliability either. Seems like every One Lap the Lingenfelters develop problems (as do most of the other insanely modded cars. Just the nature of the beast).
I'd rather spend 20 grand making something just as fast as the $140,000 'Vette that's just as, if not more, reliable.

No, you can have a well-modified car without running to Lingenfelter. It wouldn't be random, and the loser dude would be me.

spend 8 months adjusting the thing,

I have NEVER spent 8 months adjusting a mod. Sure I had to tweak my SC install but hell, that's half the fun of modifying cars. It's no fun to take it to someone and tell them to do it all for you.

only to have something people won't give you half what you invested for it?

Dude, if you're looking to make money on your performance car, you need a new hobby. That Lingenfelter 'Vette is gonna lose value like crazy the minute you take delivery. Not only will it have the usual depreciation, it'll also have the "this car's fast as hell and therefore the guy selling it probably beat the hell out of it" depreciation.
I'm not sure why you're kicking up such a fuss about this. You can get the same performance for much less money than the Lingenfelter OR a ferarri. That's pretty well known.
