Also depends where you live. Most of the common house spiders in Toronto are non-poisonous I believe (hope).
I used to have arachnaphobia also. You can deal with it the way I learned in psych course. Start by looking at pictures of spiders, then having a caged one in the same room, a caged one nearby etc.
I didn't look at the pictures, I just got used to them being far away, and then nearby.
If they really bother you that much, you really gotta kill them. Better you kill them, then drop weights and kill yourself.
