Acrobat sucks. I've seen this many, many times on our company PCs. It seems that after a random amount of time, the Acrobat IE plugin just stops working and gives you a blank page. A lot of times reinstalling it doesn't fix it either.
If you can live with PDFs opening in a separate window, open up Acrobat Reader, go to Options, and disable "Web browser integration", "view in browser", or some similar option. The exact wording and placement varies from version to version but it's always under Preferences or Options somewhere.
