Anyone need a Sempron 2800+?
So, my friends 'rents computer died a while ago... turned out the processor was fried. I told them to get an AMD Athlon XP, socket A CPU to replace it, and the guy at Circuit City told them that a Sempron would work. Big surprise - pretty much nothing works as it used to. RAM gets detected as DDR266 or 333 instead of 400 (one gig), and bootable CD's will no longer boot. I've tried different clocks/multipliers to try to find something stable, and nothing really does the trick. Of course, now, the comp store won't take the processor back, so... well...
I'm offering it up for sale/trade (for an Athlon XP, 333 MHz FSB, of comparable speed) or make an offer. It's been mounted once, with an aftermarket HS/fan. Original HS/fan included, untouched. The processor works, to the best of my knowledge, as Windows will boot up, etc., but I can't find settings to make the CPU stable in an Athlon board (Abit, NF7)
