Well, i know someone who's into her third year postgrad course training to be a forensic scientist. She freely admits the job scene is pretty much 'dead man's shoes', and spends most of her time trying to get her Raman spectroscope to work. i can guarantee that she didn't choose the course based on a TV show, though.
